BSCLT Participates in 2023 Water Blitz

The Southern Maryland Conservation Alliance (SMCA) was asked to have member groups participate in this year's Maryland Healthy Watershed Assessment. Several BSCLT Board members tested the water quality at five sites within the Black Swamp Creek water shed for the presence of nitrates in the water. Nitrates can come from fertilized soil, wastewater, landfills, animal feed lots, septic systems or urban drainage and in excess amounts they accelerate plant growth and the types of plants and animals that live in the stream and downstream. Tests results should be ready in early June.
